Kem Weber

Kem Weber (1889 - 1963) was active/lived in California / Germany.  Kem Weber is known for Modern furniture design and painting.

Described as "one of the under appreciated giants of American design and a pivotal figure in the transmission of modernism from Europe to the United States", (91) Kern Weber was born in Berlin, Germany.  He apprenticed to a royal cabinetmaker in Potsdam and eventually settled in Los Angeles, becoming the "West Coast equivalent of Paul Frankl, the New York furniture designer whose Skyscraper line was a highlight of American modernism.  Weber is now best remembered for his Airline armchair of 1934-35, a slouchy, streamlined wood-and-naugahyde design that brings to mind the aerodynamic seating of the first commercial airplanes." (92)

One of Weber's major commissions was a set of dining room table chairs for the J.C.
